Part of our
mission is the stimulus of our local rural economies. We have
found that there are many individual small business entrepreneurs
out there like ourselves. Many cannot compete with large corporations on price or choice. They can,
however, have an edge on service and choice of a different
flavor - hand crafted wares made locally.
There is a
movement in this country against cheep foreign imports just as
there was a hundred years ago, in the midst of the industrial
revolution, against machine made items which brought on the Arts
and Crafts movement.
Some of our free
time is spent seeking out small towns and shops that cater to
the tourist trade. Sadly, a lot of the shops we visit carry
imported goods that one could find at most any trinket shop in
the world. It's as if they went to the same trade show as there
competition down the street and ordered a gross of this and a
gross of that. Not very interesting to look at if I'm a tourist
and want something to take home that was made locally.
Another of our pastimes
is visiting museums of all sorts. Here is another example where
they have a gift shop stocked with imported goods.
We, here at
Jefferson Enterprises, have set out to change some of this
self-inflicted behavior. We cater to, but are not limited to,
small shops in small towns. We can customize and sometimes
personalize. Small orders are welcome.
We are as close as email or the telephone.
Sincerely,
Brian &
